Hidden in the scenic surroundings of Garhwal Himalayas, Yamunotri lie around 30 km north of Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand. The sacred temple is situated 13 kilometers from HanumanChatti. The motorable road continues till Jankichatti. One has to take 5km trek route from Janki Chatti to reach Yamunotri. Ponies, palanquins, horses and dandies are available for rent.
Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun is the nearest air head to Yamunotri. From here one can hire a cab or take a bus.
The nearest railway stations are at Haridwar, Kotdwar, Kathgodam and Dehradun. Yamunotri has rail connectivity only upto Rishikesh. After that you can take a bus or hire a private taxi & shared jeeps. Many taxi and jeep services are available. It will be better if you can get a SUV or MUV like Innova, Scorpio, Tavera etc.
Yamunotri is well connected by road with major destinations like Dehradun, Barkot, Haridwar, Janki Chatti, Uttarkashi and Hanuman Chatti. The best route for road journey to Yamunotri is via Dehradun and Barkot.
The preferred trek route to reach Yamunotri by road is
Travel to Hanuman Chatti by jeep. Then from here take the 5 km ride to reach Phool Chatti. The next stop will be Janaki Chatti that is about 4 km away. From Janki Chatti take the 8 km trek to reach Yamunotri Dham.
