Yamunotri Weather

Yamunotri is prone to drastic climatic changes due to its geographical area. The average maximum temperature found here is about 15-20 degree Celsius. Average minimum temperature can easily go below the zero degree mark. Pilgrims must keep a check on Yamunotri climate before they embark the spiritual journey of Yamunotri Dham.

Yamunotri in Summers

This is the best season to visit Yamunotri Dham. The temperature ranges from 6°C to 20°C, during this time of the year. Temple gates of Yamunotri open during the start of summers. April – July is the summer months of the region.

Yamunotri in Monsoons

During monsoon season (late June to August) Yamunotri witnesses heavy shower. Routes become slippery and mudslides make it difficult to travel. Hence, pilgrims are advised not to travel during monsoon season.

Yamunotri in Winters

The temple remains closed during this period.  Winter season in Yamunotri are from November to April. During this time of the season winter gets harsh with heavy snowfall and the roads get blocked.

Best Time/Season to Visit Yamunotri

The ideal time to visit the religious shrine in Yamunotri is from April to June and September to November. Climate is pleasant and perfect for the Chota Char Dham Yatra. In monsoon the region witness heavy downpour and landslides are frequent. So, one should avoid travelling in monsoons. During winters the freezing weather and heavy snowfall makes it hard to travel.

July In July unexpected rains may occur. It may cause landslides and trek routes become slippery & hard to travel.
August Occasional rainfall takes place. So, be careful your trip may get disrupt.
September Temperature starts to fall making the weather pleasant. This month is ideal for pilgrimage and sightseeing.
October In October weather gets cold. Nights get freezing cold as temperature drops.
November, December, January, February, March During these month the region experience heavy snowfall and freezing cold winter.
