Places to See in Kedarnath

Gaurikund

Gauri Kund is the starting point of the trek to Kedarnath Temple. This beautiful hamlet has an ancient temple dedicated to Goddess Parvati (Gauri). It is believed she meditated over here to please Lord Shiva. Gaurikund is known for natural thermal hot springs. Pilgrims take a bath in the hot spring before they embark the holy journey to Kedareshwar.

Vasuki Tal

Vasuki Tal is an enchanting lake situated at an altitude of 4135 metres. One has to cross the Chaturangi and Vasuki Glaciers which lie en-route to the lake. Vasuki Tal offers a splendid view of the nearby Chaukhamba peaks.

Bhairavnath Temple

Bhairavnath temple is dedicated to Lord Bhairav, who is believed to safeguard the Kedarnath Dham during winters. It is located 1 km from the Kedarnath Temple. Visitors get to see the entire Kedarnath Valley and Kedarnath Shrine from this temple.

Chorabari Tal

Chorabari Tal is a beautiful lake which is situated about 3 km away from the holy Kedarnath Temple. This tal is also known as Gandhi Sarovar as some ashes of the Mahatma Gandhi was immersed in the lake water. The thick forests of rhododendron trees surround this scenic lake. According to ancient, Yudhisthir, the eldest son of Pandava brothers went to heaven from this place.

Sonprayag

Sonprayag is a tiny village located at an altitude of 1829m. This is a place where two holy rivers Sone-Ganga and Mandakini meet. Devotees take dip in these rivers to attain Nirvana. The captivating mountains with gushing waters make this place worth exploring.

Shankaracharya Samadhi

Legends have it that Adi Guru Shankaracharya took Samadhi at this place at a very young age of 32. This Samadhi is snuggled next to the Kedarnath Temple. A hot spring can also be found at this place which is believed to be created by the saint himself.
