Temples & Tourist Places to See During Gangotri Dham Yatra

Hidden in the Himalayas, Gangotri is surrounded by many spectacular destinations like glaciers, high altitude lakes and trekking spots. Apart from witnessing the Goddess Ganga holy shrine, visitors also get to enjoy sightseeing in Gangotri.

Places to Visit near Gangotri

Kedar Tal

Kedar the ‘Shiva’s Lake’ is one of the highest glacial lake in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand. Trek to Kedar Tal is difficult but on the trek trail one gets to see the enchanting views of waterfalls, snow capped peaks and lush greenery valleys. The trek route from Gangotri to Kedar Tal is 18 kms.

Dodital

Dodital is a freshwater high altitude lake enclosed by high mountain peaks in Uttarakhand. Dodital trek is a popular one among the hikers and adventure lovers.

Harsil

Hidden in the lap of Himalayas, Harsil is a dreamy hamlet. Nature lovers can enjoy the serenity and peace that this place holds. It is situated on the banks of Bhagirathi River.

Maneri

It is 92 km from Gangotri. Maneri Dam found here has recently become a popular tourist attraction. Dam is built on the Bhagirathi River through which water get channeled to the turbines through a long tunnel at Tiloth in Uttarkashi.

Dayara Bugyal

A beautiful meadow covered with green alpine, Bayara Bugyal is placed at a height of 3,048 meters above sea level. Trek lovers can go for Dayara Bugyal trek. One can start the trek from Barsu village and can trek down via Raithal. The trek trail will lead you through breathtaking views.

Nachiketa Tal

Located at a distance of 131 km from Gangotri, Nachiketa Tal is a stunning elliptical shaped lake. The perfect setting of oak forests and thick pines makes Nachiketa Tal more picturesque.

Uttarkashi

Uttarkashi is an historic town that is located at an altitude of 1,150 meters on the bank of Bhagirathi. Some of the temples which you can visit here are Gyaneshwar temple, Kuteti Devi temple, Ekadash Rudra temple and Vishwanath temple.
